Charts
are difficult to read as they have had to be reduced in size
to fit on screen. You can, however, click on any chart (not
the maps) and the chart will reload in a new page at full size
and be much clearer.
July
2009
Down to only six reports this month. These six have been consistent
contributors and they deserve a special 'Thank You' for their
diligence.
This month, the reports seem to indicate a distinct drop in
the distribution of Blue Tits, Great Tits, Chaffinches, Robins,
Blackbirds, Greenfinches and Goldfinches. Dunnock shows an increase
in sightings and House Sparrows are still widespread. Song Thrush
is down but this is expected. Nuthatch and Siskin are down on
last month, reported in only two and three gardens respecively
this month. Carrion Crow is down a bit so less of a danger to
the smaller birds! Pied Wagtail has made a strong showing, though.
Collared Doves seem to be down a little, less widespread than
previously.
Last month I remarked that fewer birds seemed to be seen on
a daily basis and this trend has continued. It is difficult
to attribute this to any particular reason. Perhaps they are
just less visible among all the summer vegetation but one should
also expect that the added population of young birds should
offset this.

information in a different form -
Now the
maps (new ones covering a wider area). We have included only
selected species. If anyone out there would like to see more
species listed, please get in touch and we will see what we
can do.
You can
change this map view to show the locations where some selected
birds were seen and not seen. The symbols used are:

To give
an indication of how common all these birds are, here are some
more charts - they are not easy to make out as we have to reduce
their size considerably to fit the web page! However, choose
a chart from the list and then clicking on the chart to open
it in a new window. Internet Explorer users may have to magnify
it to full size to see it clearly.
